In honor of Black History Month, here's a photo of the NAS Seattle band from 1944. This band was a part of the "Great Lakes Experience". NAS Seattle was located at what became Sand Point Naval Station. During WWII no African American musicians were allowed to attend the Navy School of Music. These musicians were professionals recruited out of the African American community and given training at Great Lakes Naval Station.
